چکیده

The purpose of this study was to validate a single BIA for predicting the risk in DHF in dengue patients in the Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM). The BIA technique based on the passing of low-amplitude electrical current less than 1 mA (500 to 800μA) with frequency 50kHz. During hospitalization, 210 patients who are 119 males and 91 females serologically confirmed DF and DHF patients were tested using single BIA. By using multiple regression analysis, race, reactance, complication, headache and the day of fever were found independent determinants of predicting the risk. Hence, this novel approach of BIA technique can provide rapid, non-invasive, and promising method for classifying and evaluating the status of the DHF patients.

Modeling of hemoglobin in dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever using bioelectrical impedance.

This paper describes a model for predicting hemoglobin (Hb) by using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) in dengue patients in the Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HUKM). Bioelectrical impedance measurements were conducted on 83 (47 males and 36 females) serologically confirmed dengue fever (DF) and dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) patients during their hospitalization. The predictive ...

Chymase Level Is a Predictive Biomarker of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever in Pediatric and Adult Patients

Background Most patients with dengue experience mild disease, dengue fever (DF), while few develop the life-threatening diseases dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) or dengue shock syndrome (DSS). No laboratory tests predict DHF or DSS. We evaluated whether the serum chymase level can predict DHF or DSS in adult and pediatric patients and the influence of preexisting conditions (PECs) on chymase lev...

Clinicohematological Profiles of Hospitalized Patients with Dengue in Kolkata in 2012 Epidemic, West Bengal

Dengue usually presents itself with subclinical or mild infection to full blown dengue fever (DF) to dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) and dengue shock syndrome (DSS). In Kolkata, dengue started in 1824 followed by five epidemics that occurred in 1836, 1906, 1911, 1923 and 2005. The aim of this investigation is to study the clinicohematological correlation of all patients with respect to their gen...

Clinico-laboratory spectrum of dengue viral infection and risk factors associated with dengue hemorrhagic fever: a retrospective study.

BACKGROUND The incidence of dengue is rising steadily in Malaysia since the first major outbreak in 1973. Despite aggressive measures taken by the relevant authorities, Malaysia is still facing worsening dengue crisis over the past few years. There is an urgent need to evaluate dengue cases for better understanding of clinic-laboratory spectrum in order to combat this disease. METHODS A retro...

Analysis of repeat hospital admissions for dengue to estimate the frequency of third or fourth dengue infections resulting in admissions and dengue hemorrhagic fever, and serotype sequences.

Immunity to a single dengue virus (DENV) infection does not provide heterologous immunity to subsequent infection. In fact, the greatest risk for dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is with a second DENV serotype exposure. The risk for DHF with a third or fourth dengue infection relative to a first or second exposure is not known. An analysis of our database of children admitted to the Queen Sirikit...
